Maxwell is a 17 year old boy who has been playing rugby for 5 years. He joined SRF in 2012 at our Mathare clinic. Maxwell always showed an enormous amount of sporting talent and he was picked to captain the 1st tour to Cape Town in 2013 with 19 other boys. Since the tour Maxwell has been noticed by the Kenya Rugby Union junior set up and was selected for rugby trials and impressed them.
Without Shamas' involvement in Maxwell's life his parents would be struggling to pay for him to go a local Government high school that does not play rugby. At the start of this year we were able to take Maxwell for rugby trials at Upper Hill School and he was offered a rugby scholarship at the school. Now Maxwell is playing rugby for the 1st XV rugby team and has made new friends and is doing well academically. The deputy Head Mr Okumu is very excited and impressed with acquiring him at the school.
The younger children at Shamas have always looked up to Maxwell's example, who has always had a positive presence at rugby training. We excitedly look forward to see Maxwell develop and hope this opportunity can help him become a successful student and rugby player.
" Shamas has given me lots of support helping me get into a more academic school that also plays higher level rugby. Going to South Africa has been my proudest achievement. That tour has given me more confidence and I have learnt a lot seeing how people live in a different and more developed culture. One day i want to become a doctor and play rugby for Kenya. Playing rugby has really helped me focus on the important things in life. "
